Ornamental ponds, water features, High visibility water bodies
LEGOLAND California is a 128 acre theme park located in Carlsbad, California, lying 30 miles North of San Diego. The park uses plastic "bricks" to create various figures and models incorporated into numerous rides, shows and attractions, many of which are on, or enveloped by, water. The park uses chemicals such as Chlorine and Bromine in its water locations to reduce bacteria and algae. The chemical additives, however, were degrading the plastic figures made from the bricks.
As a means of reducing the use of chemicals to manage their water bodies, Blue Planet Environmental, in 2011, installed 32 decorative floating islands spaced throughout the water surface. These OxyIslands were the ideal solution as the oxygen generated by them cleaned the water naturally and the ornamental features also functioned as bio-filters while not distracting from the theme park\'s intended experience for visitors.
Consequently, LEGOLAND has been able to reduce the chemicals applied to these water bodies, promote the viability of favorable bacteria, while reducing odors and algae formation. The OxyIslands are highly efficient in keeping the ponds clean and allowing visitors to focus on what matters most: LEGOS!
